Packsaddle Mt. Mini Skinner

This is the first mini skinner I've made of this style, but I like it so much that it gets a name and will be seen again. Packsaddle Mountain is not far from Marble Falls, TX, and can be seen from the hills for miles in any direction. It forms part of the horizon in many of my best memories. The handle is black canvas micarta with stainless hardware. OAL: 5.7 inches | Blade: 2.7 inches

This is a large version of the Smithwick, made as a custom order for a man with big hands.

The Longhorn

The Longhorn knife is my tribute, as a lifelong fan and current graduate student at UT, to Bevo, the University, higher education in general, and Texas football. It features handles of cow bone, liner made of laminated layers of old UT t-shirts, and a mosaic pin with a Texas star. The Longhorn logo is etched on each side of the blade. I even drew the first sketch that later became the knife while not paying much attention in class. A Longhorn knife sells for $175. Hook'em Horns. Axis and Damascus Packsaddle

This Packsaddle Mountain mini has axis antler handles and is made with pattern welded steel. The steel has over 300 layers of 1080 and 15n20 with a little bit of pure nickel thrown in for accent. Also has a tapered tang, red liner material, and a mosaic pin. OAL: 5.6 inches | Blade: 2.6 inches

Gentleman’s Knife

Stainless bolsters on both ends and some beautiful stabilized amboyna burl scales attached with hidden pins made this knife hard to give up. This is me at the top of my game. I hope I can stay there. OAL: 7.5 | Blade:3.5

My name is Travis Fry. I’m a happy husband and father of one, and a graduate student at the University of Texas at Austin. I make knives part time because I’m a craftsman at heart and I like doing it, and also for the opportunity it provides to do something I enjoy while allowing me to be with the people I care about most. Every knife I make is the best my growing skill allows me to produce at the time, and I try to ensure that each one is better than the one that came before. I want each knife to be beautiful but useful as a tool; I try to make them functional pieces of art.
